When he’s not on stage with UK dance-music masters “Faithless” as their regular bass player, Aubrey Nunn still manages to find some time for one of his other talents – writing and co-writing with established artists. Most recently Aubrey has been working with Dido on her latest album “Life for Rent”. Aubrey also co-wrote “No Roots” on the latest Faithless album.

TC-Helicon caught up with him at his home studio in Camden, London, to find out how he used TC-Helicon plug-ins as a part of his work. His studio is based around a G4 Mac running Logic, with Neumann and TL Audio units to get the vocal take cleanly to his DAW. Aubrey bought a PowerCore FireWire last summer for his writing setup in order to get high-end effects without breaking the bank, and he told us how impressed he has been with it: “I downloaded the demo for VoiceModeler from TC-Helicon’s website and I was just blown away with the variation of vocal effects you can coax out of a take with it. The Resonance parameter can just do something remarkable to a vocal, totally changing the character of a singer’s voice. It can really add something to a mix, giving metextural vocal effects that I just couldn’t get before. The “doubler” preset often finds its way into my mixes, simply because it’s a great quick fix effect.” (more…)
